Ms PRU GOWARD (Goulburn—Minister for Mental Health, Minister for Medical Research, Assistant Minister for Health, Minister for Women, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault) [5.06 p.m.]: I congratulate Goulburn local and racehorse trainer John Bateman on his victory at Saturday's Country Championships held at the Goulburn and District Racing Club. John trained race seven winner Lofty's Menu to a stellar victory on Saturday, winning entry to the Championships at Royal Randwick in April. John Bateman is an incredibly talented trainer and was humble in his victory. He is happy to acknowledge the mentorship of the late, great Guy Walter—another extraordinary racehorse trainer.

It was a wonderful race and the crowd loved it—especially when Lofty's Menu surged on to victory by a few lengths, gaining considerable ground from behind on the straight. I also congratulate the owners of Lofty's Menu, the Randell family, as well as jockey Paul King on their tremendous win. There was a big turnout at the Goulburn and District Racing Club for the first country championship. I congratulate President Ken Ikin, Vice-President Fred Cooper and every member of the organising committee and staff on a wonderful day at the races. It was a great local victory. I am so proud to support a fantastic local club that has the most beautiful course in New South Wales.
