$67,000 of Support to Celebrate Goulburn and Our Living History
Goulburn’s Our Living History Event will receive a significant boost this year, thanks to a $67,000 grant from the NSW Government’s Heritage Near Me program.
Member for Goulburn, the Hon. Pru Goward MP said she was pleased to present the State Government’s support for the event in its second year, and it is proof that this event has a lot of potentials.
Developed as an extension of Goulburn’s Birthday celebrations - in conjunction with the Heritage and Roses Festival on the second weekend in March - Our Living History showcases Goulburn’s many heritage icons and stories, connecting locals and visitors with the living history of Goulburn.
“The grant is aimed at supporting the organisers, Celebrate Goulburn Group Inc., partly with their operational costs for the second year and partly by exploring new ways to involve the community. The funding has covered the costs of a two-day Code Club for Kids, aimed at primary school students, to be included in the program - which is new and very exciting.
“The remaining part of the grant will go towards developing a sustainable and strategic business plan for the event. This strategic assistance will benefit the event for many years to come,” Ms Goward said.
Laraine Whitehouse and Carol James are two members of the Celebrate Goulburn Group Inc., driving the event. The group has brought together a number of community organisations and heritage sites, allowing them to connect locals and visitors with the living heritage of Goulburn. Celebrate Goulburn Group Inc said the event’s goals are to develop the community’s understanding of Goulburn’s diverse past, encourage visitation and community pride in our wonderful local heritage.
The funding is from the Heritage Near Me program’s Local Heritage Strategic Project grants, which support local communities in enhancing and protecting their local heritage assets.

About the Event
Our Living History celebrates the Goulburn area's significant contribution to Australia's history.
'Living History' defines the proud and participatory relationship the locals have with their past and present history, living surrounded by places of historical significance. It describes a deeper relationship than the 'Heritage' that exists in most towns that have old buildings and seeks to recognise and celebrate the achievements and experiences of people from Goulburn and surrounding places.
Visitors can uncover the stories of women's history, a brewery, a waterworks, railways, underground rooms in cathedrals, historic homes and archaeology, even lunch in a woolshed!
