Member for Goulburn Pru Goward has endorsed the Southern Tablelands Regional Economic Development Strategy designed to support local industries and give councils and local organisations faster access to government funding.

Pru said the Southern Tablelands’ strategy contains an analysis of the region’s industrial strengths and opportunities with suggestions to grow economic prosperity that include investment in infrastructure and training.

“Finally, we have a clear, relevant strategy with best practice economic advice to help regional councils and local organisations plan ahead,” Ms Goward said.

“This strategy will make it easier for councils, industry organisations and infrastructure providers to apply for NSW Government grants like the Growing Local Economies Fund, ultimately bringing more money into the Goulburn electorate.” Ms Goward said.

The Regional Economic Development Strategy program will deliver 37 strategy documents across regional NSW this year – one for each Functional Economic Region (FER) or region of ‘economic interaction’ in the state, defined by factors such as market characteristics, population and labour flows.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said this is the first regional economic strategy project of such scale for the NSW Government.

“This is a fantastic project when we consider that regional NSW is a critical driver for the state’s economy,” Mr Barilaro said.

“These documents contain a big chunk of the information you need whether you’re a council planning a new industrial estate or an airport operator looking to grow capacity,” he said.

“Our rural communities are set to benefit from a once-in-a-generation spend on infrastructure and these plans will ensure this is a targeted investment.”
