WORK BEGINS ON UPGRADES TO SAVE LIVES ON COUNTRY ROADS
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward today announced that the electorate of Goulburn will benefit from the Saving Lives on Country Roads Program with upgrades across nine locations to begin this financial year.
“Country people make up a third of the NSW population, but last year fatalities on country roads made up nearly 70 per cent of the road toll. The shocking truth is that you are four times more likely to be killed on roads in the country compared to people who live in the city,” Ms Goward said.
“The Saving Lives on Country Roads Program aims to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on our roads by addressing high risk curves and installing safety features to prevent driver fatigue and lane departure crashes.”
Lachlan Valley Way at Walls Junction, YASS - $3,900,000. Safety improvements to reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes including safety barriers, clear zone and improved alignment. Project includes improving the alignment of Lachlan Valley Way, formation widening, clear zone work and installing safety barriers. The project is scheduled to commence prior to the end of 2018 and is due for completion by the end of April 2019.

The costs of implementing these road safety improvements will be estimated and the improvements that offer the best value will be submitted for consideration for funding and implementation.
