54 CHEERS! FINAL SECTION OF MAIN ROAD BETWEEN GOULBURN AND BATHURST SEALED
The pieces of the puzzle have come together after almost four years of work to completely seal Main Road 54, connecting Goulburn and Bathurst via Crookwell.

Member for Goulburn, Pru Goward said the NSW Government provided $10 million to upgrade and seal the final 10 kilometres of gravel road between Crookwell and Bathurst.

“Today is a historic day and one to celebrate, as Main Road 54 provides locals and tourists access to the Tablelands and facilitates the movement of freight and livestock,” Ms Goward said.

“This package of work was completed three months ahead of schedule and resulted in safer conditions for the people who use this road each day.

“It has also improved access for all road users by providing an all-weather and more durable road surface, as well as reducing maintenance costs.

The project between Crookwell and Bathurst involved rebuilding narrow and tight curves to the north of Crookwell to improve safety and provide better access for longer vehicles.

Upper Lachlan Shire Council Mayor Brian McCormack OAM thanked the NSW Government for their significant funding contribution, which brought the project to fruition.

“On behalf of Council and the community, I would like to thank the NSW Government for their $10 million contribution to this project, which is an investment in our future,” Cr McCormack said.

“Better roads mean more opportunities for business, tourism and population growth. It is a great outcome for our Shire and the region.”

Mitch Judd, Acting Director Southern Region said the project is a great example of the NSW Government partnering with local councils to improve the state’s 18,028-kilometre road and bridge network.

“Roads and Maritime Services managed the package of work on Main Road 54 which was carried out by Upper Lachlan Shire Council,” Mr Judd said.

“The community is thanked for its patience and support while work has been carried out and is encouraged to come and see for themselves the huge difference this project has made.”
