Sporting Amenities for Binalong, Gundaroo and Sutton
Member for Goulburn the Hon. Pru Goward MP today announced that three villages within Yass Valley would receive an injection of funds to develop amenities infrastructure as part of the NSW Government’s $200 million Stronger Country Communities fund.

The villages of Binalong Gundaroo and Sutton, within Yass Valley Local Government Area, are the beneficiaries of $1.65 million allocated from the fund.

The grant will enable construction of sporting amenities at the ovals of the three villages of a similar design to the Joe O’Connor Park, Yass amenities facilities (pictured below), which was constructed in 2010.

Ms Goward said the NSW Government’s significant investment in the Yass Valley would provide residents and visitors alike with improved facilities.

“Stronger Country Communities funding is an about investment in local infrastructure to improve the lives of residents and enhance the attractiveness of our region – this funding will help us do exactly that.

“The Stronger Country Communities fund is a once-in-a-generation investment and I’m excited for the people of regional NSW to start seeing these projects pop up all over the place,” Ms Goward said.

“This funding is truly fantastic for our communities of Binalong, Gundaroo and Sutton and will provide opportunities to increase health and wellbeing opportunities for rural residents of Yass Valley,” said Mayor Rowena Abbey.

“Thank you to the State Government for understanding the importance these facilities play in shaping smaller, regional communities.”

Binalong Progress Association President, Libby Elliot said the new facility will be fantastic for the entire Binalong community,

“With new, clean and safe amenities our school and sporting teams will be able to host more events which will have a positive economic flow-on effect for local businesses,” Ms Elliot said.

Sutton Community Association President, Alison Walker said mental and physical health and wellbeing are so important, especially in smaller regional communities like Sutton.

“This new facility will provide so many opportunities for community sport to develop which is very exciting for our residents,” Ms Walker said.

“The Gundaroo oval is a very popular facility for our village and this new amenities building will not only be positive for our sporting teams but it will allow this community asset to be used for a wide array of groups and events,” said Gundaroo Community Association President, Moraig McKenna.

Ms McKenna said that the Gundaroo community is very grateful for this funding and look forward to building commencing.

The Stronger Country Communities fund is one of the six funds that make up the NSW Government’s $1.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, which is designed to improve economic growth and productivity through investment in regional communities.

Applications for Round Two of funding will open in March 2018 and further details can be found at www.nsw.gov.au/strongercountrycommunities.
