Member for Goulburn Pru Goward has praised officers in the Hume Local Area Command for their tireless efforts in combating local crime.

Ms Goward said that the most recent quarterly data from the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) is proof of the exceptional work of local police in preventing crime.

In the 24 months to December 2016, 16 out of the 17 major crime categories either fell or remained stable, including murder, domestic violence and robbery.

Ms Goward said local statistics from the Yass Valley and Goulburn Mulwaree Local Government areas followed the state-wide trends, with offences remaining stable or trending down.

“I am really pleased to see downward trends in the Yass Valley and Goulburn Mulwaree Local Government areas in the following major crime categories:

  • Malicious damage to property is down 18.9% in Goulburn Mulwaree LGA

  • Break and enter dwelling is down 54.9% in Yass Valley LGA

“This latest data from BOCSAR is a testament to our local police and their dedication to the safety and protection of our community,” Ms Goward said.

“I would like to thank all the communities in our area for being vigilant and establishing proactive partnerships with our police, ensuring public safety concerns are properly addressed,” Ms Goward said.

“The NSW Liberals and Nationals Government is determined to turn these statistics around, and will provide police across the state with the resources they need to investigate and prosecute these crimes.

“The upcoming introduction of Regional and Metropolitan Deputy Commissioners as part of the NSW Government’s reforms to the NSW Police Force will ensure targeted policing of the highest standard to reduce local crime trends.”
